Club History

The Sussex & Kent Weald Stationary Engine Group was formed in 1999 by Alan & Lynne Cullen. Having been interested in vintage machinery for many years, the Cullen's entered the world of Stationary Engines about ten years ago after Alan retired from his previous interest in short circuit motor racing.Quickly making friends within the movement, the Cullen's saw a need for small events specifically for engines in the Kent & East Sussex areas and ran a series of shows for several years. Such venues as 'The Lamberhurst Toy Museum', 'Hammerwood Park' house and other one of's provided a change from the usual 'steam shows' where stationary engines are often ignored.

Growing in popularity, these events formed the basis for the club and in 1999 following calls from various enthusiasts Alan took the plunge and created S&KWSEG. The area covered by the club is reflected in the name but has grown to include parts of West Sussex and Surrey.
